Progressive U.S. Senate Candidate Heads To Runoff in Oklahoma

Weeks after gaining the most votes in the state Democratic Primary, Jasmine Thomas faces a runoff on August 25 to determine who will face Republican Kevin Hern on November 3.

N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas (NJT) comes back on In Depth With Deon Podcast this week as she moves closer to a general election. On June 16, she gained the most votes out of a field of five Democratic primary opponents.

Over 76,000 Oklahomans from across the state chose her unapologetic progressive brand over more moderate candidates, according to results from the Oklahoma Election Board. But since Oklahoma law requires a primary candidate to receive over 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff, NJT’s 45% win means she’ll face Jim Priest in a Democratic runoff on August 25.

The winner of these two candidates will face Republican Kevin Hern in the November 3 general election. Follow and subscribe for the latest updates. Watch or listen anywhere you get your podcasts.
